Dozmary Pool is a small, peat-stained upland pool on Bodmin Moor and stays relatively cold year-round. Typical surface temperatures range from about 4–8 °C (39–46 °F) in winter and early spring, rise to roughly 11–16 °C (52–61 °F) in the warmest weeks of summer, and sit around 7–12 °C (45–54 °F) through autumn. Because it is shallow, tannin-dark and influenced by weather, temperatures can change quickly with rainfall and cool nights, and visibility is usually low.
There are no formal bathing facilities at Dozmary Pool and swimming is generally not encouraged: the site is ecologically sensitive, the bottom can be uneven and muddy, and there are no lifeguards or safety services. Some experienced wild swimmers do enter at their own risk, but anyone considering it should respect conservation advice and local signage. The pool also attracts walkers and folklore enthusiasts; nearby features include the rugged tors of Rough Tor and Brown Willy, the Hurlers stone circles, and the atmospheric Jamaica Inn and moorland walking routes.
