** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#Devon
Burrator Reservoir, set on the edge of Dartmoor in Devon, typically stays cool through the year. Winter surface temperatures commonly sit around 4–7 °C (39–45 °F), spring sees a gradual rise to roughly 6–12 °C (43–54 °F), summer surface temperatures can reach about 14–19 °C (57–66 °F) in warmer spells, and autumn usually cools back to 8–14 °C (46–57 °F). As with many upland reservoirs, deeper water remains colder than the surface and conditions vary with weather, wind and rainfall. These temperatures make the water bracing even in summer and potentially hazardous for unprepared swimmers.
Open swimming at Burrator is generally not permitted because the reservoir supplies drinking water and because cold, deep water and submerged hazards create safety risks. Occasional supervised or permitted events may be arranged with the reservoir authorities, but casual wild swimming is discouraged. Visitors commonly enjoy the area for walking, cycling and picnicking; the dam, well-marked trails and viewpoints toward Dartmoor tors attract hikers, and nearby villages like Meavy and the wider Dartmoor National Park offer additional scenic interest and outdoor activities.
