*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Platte Lake in Michigan experiences pronounced seasonal changes in surface water temperature. In winter months the lake sits at or just above freezing, roughly 32–39°F (0–4°C), and is often ice-covered for part of the season. Spring sees a gradual warming from about 34–55°F (1–13°C) as ice melts and the water mixes. By summer, typical surface temperatures range from approximately 60–75°F (16–24°C) in most open-water areas, with shallow bays occasionally warming a few degrees higher on sunny days. In autumn the lake cools again, usually settling between about 45–60°F (7–16°C) as the heat is lost to cooler air temperatures and increased mixing.
Swimming is generally allowed and commonly done during the warmer months, especially from late June through August, when surface temperatures are most comfortable for recreational use. However, water can remain quite brisk outside that peak period, so swimmers should be aware of cold-water shock and shorter endurance in cooler temperatures. In winter swimming is not recommended because of ice cover and near-freezing water. Public access points and private beaches may be available, but lifeguards are not always present, so typical safety precautions—swimming with a companion, wearing a life jacket if uncertain, and checking local conditions—are advisable.
