*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Glen Lake in northwest Michigan is known for clear, cool water fed by springs and cold groundwater. Seasonal surface temperatures vary widely: in winter the lake typically freezes or sits close to 32°F (0°C) at the surface, with water beneath ice remaining just above freezing. Spring sees a gradual rise from the low 30s into the 40s and 50s°F (0–10°C) as runoff and warming air temperatures influence the lake. By summer, surface temperatures commonly reach about 60–72°F (15–22°C) on most days and can climb into the mid-70s°F (around 24°C) in protected shallow bays during heat spells. In autumn the lake cools again, dropping from the 60s into the 40s°F (16–4°C) before ice returns.
Swimming at Glen Lake is allowed and popular during the warmer months because there are public beaches and park access points that welcome swimmers. The main considerations are water temperature and depth: the lake’s spring-fed nature and deeper basins keep much of the water cooler than small inland ponds, so swimming season is shorter and cold-water shock and hypothermia are real risks, especially outside peak summer. Visitors should use caution, supervise children, and heed local advisories and lifeguard guidance where provided.
