*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Tellico Lake, a reservoir in eastern Tennessee, experiences pronounced seasonal shifts in surface water temperature that affect swimming comfort. In winter the surface commonly ranges from roughly 35–50°F (2–10°C), making immersion cold and short-lived without protective gear. Spring sees warming to about 50–70°F (10–21°C) as the sun and air temperatures rise, while summer brings the warmest conditions, frequently between 70–85°F (21–29°C) at the surface in shallower, sheltered coves. By fall the lake cools again into the 60–75°F (16–24°C) band before winter turnover. Deeper parts of the reservoir remain cooler year-round, and water released from upstream structures can locally lower temperatures, so conditions vary by time of year and location on the lake.
Swimming is generally allowed on Tellico Lake, and people commonly swim from public recreation areas, docks, and shoreline spots, but there are no lifeguards except at specially managed beaches, so activity is at visitors’ own risk. Boat traffic, changing water depths, submerged structures, and occasional water-quality advisories can create hazards, so swimmers should choose designated recreation areas when available, wear life jackets if appropriate, and check local advisories or management rules before entering the water.
