** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Ocoee’s surface water temperatures vary considerably through the year because it is a narrow reservoir in eastern Tennessee that responds to air temperatures and seasonal runoff. In winter months (roughly December–February) surface readings commonly sit in the mid-30s to mid-40s °F (about 2–7 °C). Spring (March–May) brings warming waters typically from the mid-40s to around 60 °F (7–16 °C) as snowmelt and rain raise levels. Summer (June–August) is when the lake is warmest, with surface temperatures most often in the 70s °F—roughly 21–27 °C—and occasionally climbing into the low 80s °F (27–28 °C) on hot, calm days. In fall (September–November) the water cools again, generally ranging from the mid-50s to low 70s °F (13–22 °C). Deeper water remains noticeably colder year-round, and stratification or sudden currents can create sharp temperature differences.
Swimming at Lake Ocoee is not broadly supported with lifeguarded beaches, and access is limited in many areas for safety and management reasons. The Tennessee Valley Authority and local authorities discourage swimming near dams, intake structures and boat ramps because of boat traffic, steep or rocky shorelines, and the potential for sudden water releases that change currents and depth. While some visitors swim in quiet coves during warm months, it is important to check local rules and exercise caution since formal swimming facilities and regular patrols are generally absent.
