*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Chickamauga Lake, a TVA reservoir on the Tennessee River in southeastern Tennessee, experiences marked seasonal swings in surface temperature. In winter months the water commonly sits around 40–50°F (4–10°C), while spring brings a gradual rise to roughly 50–65°F (10–18°C). Summer surface temperatures typically range from about 75–85°F (24–29°C), and during heat waves parts of the lake can reach the mid-80s to around 90°F (29–32°C). In autumn the lake cools back to roughly 60–75°F (15–24°C). These figures are seasonal surface averages; temperatures can vary by depth, location, weather and inflow from tributaries.
Swimming on Chickamauga Lake is generally practiced and not universally prohibited, but it is largely informal and subject to safety considerations. Designated public beaches are limited, and authorities advise avoiding areas near the dam, boat channels and heavy marinas because of strong currents, boat traffic and submerged hazards. Cold-season swimming carries a real hypothermia risk at the lower temperature ranges, while summer conditions are more comfortable for recreational swimming. Water quality and occasional algae blooms can also influence whether a particular area is advisable for swimming, so local advisories and common-sense precautions should be checked before entering the water.
