*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Nottely Lake, a TVA reservoir in northern Georgia, experiences a clear seasonal pattern in surface water temperature. In winter the lake commonly cools into the 40s°F (about 4–10°C), while spring sees a steady rise through the 50s–60s°F (10–20°C) as runoff and air temperatures warm. Peak summer surface temperatures typically fall in the 70s–80s°F (21–29°C) and can occasionally reach the mid-80s°F (around 29–30°C) during hot spells. Autumn brings a gradual decline back into the 50s–60s°F (13–20°C). These ranges depend on local weather, depth and inflow; deeper or shaded coves remain cooler than shallow, sunlit areas.
Swimming on Nottely Lake is generally allowed because it is a public recreational reservoir, and many visitors swim from shore, docks or boats. However, there are few if any lifeguarded public beaches, and local rules or private-property restrictions may limit access in some spots. Boat traffic, changing depths, underwater vegetation and occasional algae blooms can affect safety and enjoyment, so swimmers are advised to use common-sense precautions such as life jackets for weak swimmers, avoiding boat lanes, and heeding posted notices or water-quality advisories before entering the water.
