*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Melton Hill Lake, a TVA impoundment on the Clinch River in eastern Tennessee, experiences a clear seasonal cycle in surface water temperature. In summer months surface readings commonly reach the mid-70s to low-80s °F (about 24–28 °C), while late spring and early fall typically show temperatures in the 50s to upper 60s °F (10–20 °C) as the lake warms or cools. Winter surface temperatures often fall into the mid-30s to mid-40s °F (around 2–7 °C), especially in shallow bays and nearshore areas. Local factors such as depth, shading, inflows and regulated releases from Melton Hill Dam can create cooler pockets or stronger temperature gradients near the dam and channels compared with sheltered coves.
Swimming at Melton Hill Lake is generally possible but not highly regulated; there are recreational areas and boaters commonly swim from shore or from anchored boats. There are few if any lifeguarded public beaches, and restrictions may apply near the dam, boat ramps and marinas. Safety considerations include cold or rapidly changing water temperatures, boat traffic, underwater hazards and occasional water-quality advisories, so swimmers should follow posted signs, avoid restricted zones and check local guidance before entering the water.
