*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Fort Loudoun Lake, a TVA reservoir on the Tennessee River near Knoxville, experiences a wide seasonal swing in surface water temperature. In winter the surface typically cools to roughly 35–50°F (2–10°C), while spring months commonly see warming into the 50–70°F range (10–21°C). Summer brings the warmest conditions, with surface readings often between 75–85°F (24–29°C) and occasional highs a bit above that on hot, stagnant days. By fall temperatures usually fall back toward 60–75°F (15–24°C). These numbers vary with weather, wind, depth and inflows; deeper water stays colder year‑round and daily changes can be substantial after storms or cold fronts.
Swimming in Fort Loudoun Lake is generally permitted in many shoreline areas but there are no widespread lifeguarded public beaches and local rules differ by park or marina. Recreational swimming is allowed primarily because the reservoir is used for boating and fishing, but swimmers should be cautious: boat traffic, submerged structures, steep drop-offs and cold thermoclines pose risks, and access is restricted near the dam and some TVA facilities. Water quality is usually acceptable for recreation, though occasional advisories for algae or bacteria can occur, so checking local health and park notices before entering is advised. Swimmers should also respect signage and use personal flotation devices when appropriate.
