** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Marburg is a reservoir in Codorus State Park whose surface water warms and cools with the seasons. In winter the lake’s surface often drops toward near-freezing values, roughly 32–40°F (0–4°C). Spring brings steady warming, with surface temperatures commonly in the 40–60°F (4–16°C) range as stratification begins. During summer the shallow surface can reach about 70–80°F (21–27°C), occasionally a bit higher on hot, calm days, while deeper water stays much cooler. By early fall the surface usually cools into the 60–70°F (16–21°C) band before the lake returns to winter conditions.
Swimming is allowed at Lake Marburg in the park’s designated beach area when the facility is open and lifeguards are on duty, typically during the main summer season. The restriction to a marked beach exists for safety and water-quality reasons: open-water areas have boat traffic, changing depths and currents, and less supervision. Park staff monitor conditions and may close the beach temporarily for harmful algal blooms, elevated bacterial readings, or hazardous weather. If you plan to swim, use the staffed beach during posted hours and heed any advisories or closures.
