Simpson Ground Reservoir sits in the Central Lake District and, being an upland impoundment, its water stays cool year‑round. Typical surface temperatures in summer range from about 10–16 °C (50–61 °F), while spring and autumn are usually around 6–12 °C (43–54 °F). In winter the water commonly falls to roughly 4–7 °C (39–45 °F), although local weather and depth will affect exact figures.
