*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Grasmere is a small Lake District lake whose water stays relatively cool year-round. Typical seasonal surface temperatures range from about 2–6 °C (36–43 °F) in winter, 5–12 °C (41–54 °F) in spring, 12–18 °C (54–64 °F) in summer on warmer days, and 6–12 °C (43–54 °F) in autumn. Because it is a modestly sheltered body of water, surface warmth can vary quickly with weather and depth, so swimmers often find the water noticeably colder below the surface even in summer.
Swimming is commonly undertaken at Grasmere but not formally regulated; there is no designated bathing facility or lifeguard service, so bathing is at your own risk. Water quality is generally good but can change after heavy rain, and swimmers should be aware of cold-water shock, underwater hazards and occasional boat traffic. The lake sits beside the village of Grasmere, close to Dove Cottage and Wordsworth-related sites, St Oswald’s Church, and numerous walking routes up Helm Crag and surrounding fells, making it an attractive spot for a combined swim and countryside visit.
