*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#Cumbria
Haweswater Reservoir lies high in the eastern Lake District and is a deep, cold body of water fed by upland streams. Surface temperatures vary through the year: in summer the top layer typically reaches about 10–16 °C (50–61 °F), in spring and autumn around 4–10 °C (39–50 °F), and in winter commonly falls to 2–6 °C (36–43 °F). Deeper water remains significantly colder even in summer, so cold-shock and hypothermia are real risks.
Swimming in Haweswater is generally not permitted or is strongly discouraged because the reservoir supplies drinking water and because of safety hazards such as deep cold water, submerged structures and variable currents. Although some experienced wild swimmers sometimes enter isolated spots, visitors should observe signage and the water company’s rules and avoid unsupervised bathing. The surrounding area offers excellent alternatives: the Mardale dam and valley, ridges of the High Street range and Kidsty Pike for hiking, and the nearby village of Shap for services, all providing opportunities for walking, wildlife watching and photography.
