*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Wast Water, the deepest lake in England set beneath the sharp peaks of Wasdale, is characteristically cold. Surface temperatures typically sit around 4–6 °C (39–43 °F) in winter and rise to roughly 10–15 °C (50–59 °F) in late summer; on particularly warm days the very surface can approach about 18 °C (64 °F). Because the lake is very deep and fed by mountain streams, the bulk of the water remains much colder year-round, often around 4–7 °C (39–45 °F) below the surface. These figures are approximate and will vary with weather, wind and season.
Swimming in Wast Water is not formally prohibited, but there are no lifeguards or facilities and conditions can be hazardous. Cold-water shock, sudden deep drop-offs, steep stony banks and limited access make wild swimming risky for the unprepared, so people usually only enter with proper cold-water experience, a wetsuit and a companion. The area attracts walkers and climbers too, with nearby highlights including Scafell Pike, Wasdale Head and the dramatic ridges of Great Gable, offering hiking and scrambling in addition to lakeside scenery.
