** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#Cumbria
Wet Sleddale Reservoir is a remote upland lake in Cumbria whose water stays cool through the year. Typical surface temperatures range from around 12–18 °C (54–64 °F) in the warmest months, drop to about 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) in spring and autumn, and sit near freezing at roughly 0–6 °C (32–43 °F) in winter. Temperatures vary with depth, wind and sunlight, so even in summer cold layers and sudden chill can be present. Those numbers mean cold-water risks such as shock and rapid loss of body heat should be expected outside of short, cautious swims.
Swimming at Wet Sleddale is not formally supervised and is generally undertaken at your own risk; local owners and operators often discourage casual bathing because of steep banks, deep water, hidden underwater hazards and proximity to water infrastructure. If people do swim they tend to go well prepared with wetsuits, a swim buddy and good exit plans. The area is popular for walking and birdwatching, with nearby attractions including the Howgill Fells, the village of Shap and the wider Lake District hills for longer hikes.
