*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Kentmere Reservoir sits in the Kentmere valley of the Lake District and tends to be chilly year-round, especially below the surface. Typical seasonal surface temperatures are roughly 0–4 °C (32–39 °F) in winter, 4–10 °C (39–50 °F) in spring, 10–16 °C (50–61 °F) in summer, and 4–10 °C (39–50 °F) in autumn. Even in warm spells the water can feel much colder because the reservoir is relatively shallow and fed by upland streams, so deeper areas and shaded sections stay markedly cooler than surface readings.
There is no formal designated bathing area at Kentmere Reservoir and swimming is generally not promoted because of cold-water shock risk, uncertain depths, hidden underwater hazards and ownership or land-management considerations; some experienced wild swimmers do enter the water but it is at their own risk and local advice should be sought. The area is popular for walking and fell-running, with the Kentmere Round, Kentmere Pike and nearby passes offering scenic routes, and the small local villages providing access points and a taste of classic Lake District countryside.
