** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Silver Lake in New York follows a typical temperate-lake seasonal cycle. Surface temperatures in winter are generally at or just above freezing, roughly 32–40°F (0–4°C). As the ice breaks up and spring progresses, temperatures climb into the 45–60°F range (7–16°C). By early to mid-summer the top layer of the lake commonly warms to about 68–78°F (20–26°C), with the warmest readings found in shallow, sheltered bays on sunny days. In fall the water cools again, often settling between 50–60°F (10–16°C) before winter refreezes much of the surface. Deeper water remains colder year-round, so stratification can produce a wide vertical range of temperatures at any season.
Swimming is typically possible in warm months at designated beach or recreational areas, but access and safety depend on local management and conditions. Authorities may allow swimming when temperatures are comfortable and lifeguards or monitoring are provided; conversely, swimming is restricted or discouraged when signs indicate poor water quality, harmful algal blooms, unsafe currents, or during ice cover. Cold water and sudden temperature changes also increase the risk of cold shock and hypothermia, so many people limit swimming to the warmer midsummer period and heed posted regulations and advisories.
