** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Cuba Lake, located near the village of Cuba in western New York, experiences pronounced seasonal changes in surface water temperature typical of small northeastern reservoirs. In winter the lake commonly approaches freezing, with surface temperatures near 32–39°F (0–4°C) and periodic ice cover. Spring warming brings temperatures into the range of roughly 40–60°F (4–16°C) as snowmelt and cool spring air moderate the water. By summer, surface temperatures often reach about 65–80°F (18–27°C) during July and August, although shallow bays can warm slightly higher on hot, calm days. In autumn the water cools again to about 50–65°F (10–18°C) as air temperatures fall.
Swimming does occur at Cuba Lake, particularly by residents and property owners who have shoreline access, but public swimming opportunities are limited because much of the shoreline is privately held and the lake is managed by local entities that set rules for use. That management, together with variable water temperatures and occasional cold pockets, is why anyone planning to swim should confirm access permissions and current conditions. Safety considerations such as sudden temperature changes, boat traffic, and local regulations also influence whether and where swimming is advisable.
