** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Honeoye Lake, one of New York’s smaller Finger Lakes, shows pronounced seasonal shifts in surface water temperature because it is relatively shallow. In spring (April–May) surface temperatures commonly range from about 40–60°F (4–16°C) as the lake stratifies and warms. Summer highs (June–August) typically reach roughly 68–80°F (20–27°C) on warm afternoons, with late July and August usually the warmest. Early fall (September–October) sees temperatures fall back toward 45–65°F (7–18°C) as cooling and turnover begin. In winter the lake can approach freezing, with surface measurements near 32–34°F (0–1°C) and frequent ice cover during sustained cold spells.
Swimming at Honeoye Lake is allowed and is a common recreational activity during the warmer months at designated public beaches and park areas, where seasonal lifeguards may be present. However access and advisability depend on conditions: water quality advisories for harmful algal blooms (cyanobacteria) or bacterial contamination can temporarily restrict swimming, and boat traffic and water clarity are additional safety considerations. In winter, open-water swimming is generally not recommended because of near-freezing temperatures and ice hazards. Visitors should check current local advisories and posted rules at lakeside parks before entering the water.
