*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Conesus Lake, one of New York’s Finger Lakes, experiences a wide seasonal range in water temperature. Surface temperatures in late spring and early summer commonly sit around the mid-50s to mid-60s °F (13–18 °C). In the warmest part of summer, surface readings often rise into the low 70s to around 80 °F (21–27 °C), and brief heat waves can push surface spots a few degrees higher. By early fall temperatures generally fall back into the 50s and 60s °F (10–20 °C). In winter the lake approaches freezing, with surface temperatures around 32–40 °F (0–4 °C) where ice forms. Because Conesus Lake stratifies in summer, deeper water below the thermocline remains substantially colder than surface values.
Swimming in Conesus Lake is commonly permitted and practiced from both public and private shorelines during the warmer months, and some beaches may have seasonal lifeguard coverage. However, local health authorities sometimes issue advisories or temporary closures due to water-quality concerns such as harmful algal blooms, elevated bacteria, or storm-related runoff, so conditions can change. Swimmers should also be aware that even in summer the lake can be chilly below the surface, creating cold-shock or hypothermia risks, and should follow posted guidance and use caution when entering open water.
