*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Seboeis Lake in northern Maine experiences the kind of seasonal temperature swings common to inland Maine waters. From spring melt through late May, surface temperatures typically run about 40–55°F (4–13°C) as the lake warms slowly. In summer, surface warming usually brings the best swimming conditions, with typical surface readings of roughly 60–75°F (15–24°C) on warm days; colder years or cloudy periods may keep it nearer the low end of that band. By fall the surface cools again to about 45–60°F (7–16°C) as air temperatures drop, and in winter the lake is at or near freezing, often 28–34°F (-2–1°C) beneath ice and slush. Deeper water remains noticeably colder year-round because of stratification and a thermocline that can produce much lower temperatures below a few meters.
Swimming at Seboeis Lake is generally permitted and popular from late June through August when surface temperatures are mildest, but there are few developed beaches or lifeguarded areas. The lake’s remoteness and variable temperatures mean swimmers should exercise caution: cold shock and rapid hypothermia are risks even on warm days if venturing into deeper or shaded water. Visitors should use common-sense safety—swim with companions, wear flotation if needed, and observe local signage or advisories about water quality or access.
