*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Millinocket Lake in Maine experiences a wide range of water temperatures through the year. In spring, as ice melts, surface temperatures commonly sit around 34–50°F (1–10°C). By early summer the lake often warms to about 50–65°F (10–18°C), and during the warmest weeks of July and August surface readings can reach roughly 65–75°F (18–24°C), with shallow bays sometimes a few degrees warmer. In autumn the water cools back toward 50–40°F (10–4°C) as air temperatures drop, and in winter the surface typically approaches freezing, near 32°F (0°C), with ice cover common on much of the lake. Deeper water stays substantially colder year-round, so temperature varies with depth, location and weather.
Swimming is generally allowed as a recreational activity on Millinocket Lake and is most feasible during the summer months when surface temperatures are in the comfortable mid‑60s to low‑70s °F (around 18–24°C). Because the lake is remote and natural, there are often no lifeguards or designated swimming facilities, and cold water, sudden depth changes, submerged hazards and boat traffic can increase risk. Ice makes swimming unsafe through winter and early spring. Visitors should check local signage or town guidance, use appropriate flotation when needed, and choose sheltered, warm shallows for safer swimming.
