*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Sebec Lake in central Maine experiences a wide annual range of water temperatures tied to season and depth. In spring (April–June) surface temperatures typically rise from roughly 45–60°F (7–16°C) as ice melts and the lake mixes. By mid to late summer (July–August) the warm surface layer often reaches about 65–72°F (18–22°C), though deeper water remains much colder because the lake stratifies. In fall (September–November) surface temperatures cool back into the 50–60°F (10–15°C) range as turnover occurs. In winter the lake usually freezes over and water near the surface sits close to freezing, around 32–39°F (0–4°C), with slightly warmer water below the ice.
Swimming at Sebec Lake is generally allowed and is a common summer activity where there is public shoreline access or boat landings, because summer surface temperatures can be comfortable for bathing. There are no statewide prohibitions on swimming, but local rules, private property boundaries and seasonal conditions apply. Swimmers should be aware that water can still be chilly even in summer and that there are no guaranteed lifeguards at informal sites; sudden depth changes and cold deeper water increase risk. In winter swimming is limited by ice and safety concerns, so it is not recommended except for experienced, properly prepared ice swimmers.
