** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Cold Stream Pond in Maine typically follows the seasonal temperature pattern of northern New England lakes. After ice-out in spring the surface water is often in the 40s to mid-50s °F (about 4–13 °C), warming through late spring and into summer when surface temperatures commonly reach the mid-60s to mid-70s °F (roughly 18–24 °C) and occasionally higher in shallow bays. By early fall the surface cools back into the 40s and 50s °F (around 7–13 °C). In winter the pond normally freezes or hovers near 32 °F (0 °C) under ice cover. Deeper water stays colder year-round and lakes in the region commonly develop a thermocline in summer, so temperatures can drop sharply with depth.
Swimming is generally permitted at Cold Stream Pond where public access or private property allows, and many people swim there in summer when surface temperatures are most comfortable. However, seasonal cold, sudden drops in temperature with depth, boat traffic, water quality conditions and the presence of ice in shoulder seasons all influence safety and suitability for swimming. Because spring and fall water can produce cold-water shock and hypothermia risk, swimmers should use caution, wear life jackets when appropriate, enter gradually, and follow any local signs or advisories regarding access and water quality.
