Colliford Lake, the largest inland lake in Cornwall, tends to be cool year-round. Typical surface temperatures in winter sit around 4–6 °C (39–43 °F), rising through spring to roughly 7–12 °C (45–54 °F). In summer the water can warm to about 15–20 °C (59–68 °F) on warm spells, while autumn usually brings a fall back to the low teens, around 10–14 °C (50–57 °F). These figures vary with weather, wind and depth, and deeper or shaded parts remain noticeably cooler even in summer.
Swimming at Colliford is not provided with formal supervised bathing areas; it is primarily a country park and working reservoir, so any wild swimming is at your own risk. Hazards include cold water, sudden drop-offs, limited rescue cover and variable access points, and visitors are advised to heed local signage and guidance. The surrounding country park, waymarked trails and cycling routes make the area popular for walking and birdwatching, and it sits close to Bodmin Moor and other local attractions that offer plenty of dry-land activities.
