*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Prompton Lake is a relatively small reservoir in northeastern Pennsylvania whose water temperatures vary strongly with the seasons. In winter the surface is typically at or just above freezing, around 32–39°F (0–4°C) beneath ice cover. Spring brings a steady rise, with surface temperatures commonly in the 40–60°F range (4–16°C) as snowmelt and cool runoff dominate. By summer the lake often warms to roughly 70–80°F (21–27°C) at the surface on warm, sunny days, though cooler thermoclines can persist below a few feet. During autumn the water cools again to roughly 50–65°F (10–18°C) as air temperatures fall and turnover begins.
Swimming at Prompton Lake is not provided as a managed recreational activity; the state park does not maintain an official swimming beach, and swimming is generally discouraged or not permitted under park rules and reservoir management practices. The restrictions are for safety and resource reasons: the reservoir has variable depths, hidden drop-offs, boat traffic, cold-water hazards, and limited lifeguard or emergency coverage. Visitors may find permitted alternatives such as shoreline picnicking, boating and fishing, but anyone considering entering the water should check current park regulations and exercise caution because of temperature-related risks like cold-water shock.
