*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Shohola Marsh Reservoir in northeastern Pennsylvania experiences the typical seasonal temperature swings of small inland impoundments. In winter the surface often approaches freezing, roughly 32–40°F (0–4°C), with colder air driving ice formation in many years. As spring warms the lake climbs into the 40s and 50s°F (4–15°C), and by summer surface temperatures commonly reach the upper 60s to mid‑70s°F (20–24°C), occasionally rising into the upper 70s or low 80s°F (25–28°C) during heat spells. In autumn the water cools back through the 50s to 60s°F (10–18°C) before ice begins to form again. Thermal stratification on deeper days is limited by the reservoir’s size and wind mixing, so temperatures can be fairly uniform in shallow areas.
Swimming at Shohola Marsh Reservoir is generally not promoted as a formal recreational use; there are few or no lifeguarded beaches and shoreline conditions are often marshy with submerged vegetation, snags and variable depths that present safety and water‑quality concerns. Management of similar reservoirs also emphasizes wildlife habitat and water supply protection, which can lead to restrictions or discouragement of open swimming. People do sometimes swim in summer where access allows, but it’s advisable to follow local signs and regulations, be aware of cold or rapidly changing temperatures, and take standard water‑safety precautions.
