*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake of the Lackawanna, often known locally as Lake Scranton, experiences the typical seasonal temperature swings of small northeastern reservoirs. In winter the surface often approaches freezing, commonly around 34–39°F (1–4°C). Spring brings a steady rise, with water temperatures moving into the mid-40s to low 60s °F (7–17°C) as the season progresses. Peak summer temperatures are usually in the low to upper 70s °F, roughly 21–26°C, and on warm spells the surface can briefly reach the upper 70s to around 80°F (26–27°C). Come autumn the water cools back through the 50s and 60s °F (10–18°C) as air temperatures fall and turnover begins. These ranges can vary year to year with weather, depth, and inflow conditions, and deeper portions remain colder than the surface even in summer.
Swimming in Lake of the Lackawanna is generally not permitted. The lake functions as a municipal reservoir and is managed with an emphasis on water quality, public safety, and infrastructure protection, so public bathing is restricted by local rules. In addition, cooler temperatures outside midsummer, variable depths, and underwater hazards make unsupervised swimming risky. Visitors can still enjoy shoreline trails and views, but anyone considering water activities should follow posted regulations and local authority guidance.
