** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information

Oulton Broad’s water temperatures vary through the year and tend to reflect shallow, slow-moving inland waters. In summer surface temperatures commonly reach around 16–22 °C (61–72 °F), and on warm spells can rise towards 24 °C (75 °F). Autumn sees cooling to roughly 10–16 °C (50–61 °F), while spring typically ranges from about 6–14 °C (43–57 °F) as the water gradually warms. Winter lows are often in the 2–6 °C (36–43 °F) band. These figures are approximate and can change with weather, depth and sheltered conditions around the broad.
Swimming is possible but largely informal; there are no lifeguarded or officially maintained bathing beaches on the Broad, so any swimming is at your own risk. Boat traffic, submerged vegetation and variable water quality mean local authorities and signage may discourage unaccompanied bathing. Many visitors prefer supervised watersports, hire boats or marked lanes. Nearby attractions include boat trips and hire on the Broads National Park, the coastal town of Lowestoft, riverside walks, nature reserves and waterside cafés that make the area attractive even for those who choose not to swim.
