*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
North Manistique Lake’s surface temperatures follow the typical seasonal pattern of inland Upper Peninsula lakes. After ice-out in spring, daytime surface readings are often in the mid‑40s to mid‑50s Fahrenheit (about 7 to 13 °C). By late spring and early summer the lake commonly warms into the low 60s to upper 60s F (around 16 to 20 °C). Peak summer highs in July and August generally reach the upper 60s to mid‑70s F (roughly 20 to 24 °C), and on warm years shallow bays can climb into the mid‑70s to high‑70s F (about 24 to 26 °C). Come autumn the surface cools back into the 50s F (10 to 15 °C) and by winter the lake approaches freezing conditions, with ice cover forming at or below 32 °F (0 °C).
Swimming is commonly allowed on North Manistique Lake and the shoreline is used for recreational bathing because it is a public natural lake with boat access and private beach areas. However, conditions vary by season and location: colder spring and fall temperatures increase risk of cold shock or hypothermia, and summer water quality can be affected locally by algae or bacterial advisories, shoreline vegetation, or boat traffic. There are typically no municipal lifeguards, so swimmers should check current local advisories, enter gradually in cool water, and follow basic safety practices.
