*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
New Bullards Bar Reservoir is a deep Sierra foothill impoundment, so water temperatures vary a lot by season and depth. Surface temperatures in winter commonly sit around the low 40s to low 50s °F (about 4–11 °C). In spring the surface typically warms to roughly 45–60 °F (7–15 °C) as snowmelt and sun increase inflow. Peak summer surface readings often range from about 60–75 °F (16–24 °C), though on very hot, calm afternoons small bays can warm a few degrees higher. Because the reservoir is deep and fed by cold river flow and releases from near the bottom, deeper water remains considerably colder year-round, and abrupt thermoclines can cause sudden temperature drops below the surface.
Swimming is generally possible but treated as a higher-risk activity. There are no widespread lifeguarded beaches, water levels and currents change with hydroelectric releases, and boat traffic is common, so people swim at their own risk in unstaffed areas. The combination of cold water, steep drop-offs, and potential cold-water shock makes cautious preparation important: enter gradually, avoid long swims alone, and wear flotation if venturing far from shore. Local rules or seasonal restrictions may apply to specific access points, so visitors should heed posted signage and safety guidance.
