** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Davis is a high-elevation reservoir in northern California whose water stays cool for most of the year. Seasonal surface temperatures typically run about 55–70°F (13–21°C) in summer, with the warmest readings confined to shallow bays on hot afternoons. In spring the water is cold, roughly 40–55°F (4–13°C) as snowmelt feeds the lake, and in fall it usually cools to about 45–60°F (7–16°C). Winter brings the coldest conditions, often near freezing at 32–45°F (0–7°C), and in cold years shorelines can ice over. Deeper water remains colder than surface measurements, so even in summer thermoclines and wind-driven mixing can lower temperatures quickly.
Swimming is generally permitted at Lake Davis because it functions as a public recreation area, but it is largely informal and subject to posted rules or temporary closures. There are typically no lifeguards, and managers may impose restrictions for safety, water quality, or invasive species control, so visitors should check current notices before entering the water. Cold-water hazards—rapid loss of body heat, cramps, and increased drowning risk—make caution essential; proper supervision, a wetsuit in marginal temperatures, and awareness of changing conditions are advised when swimming.
