Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Millwood Lake, located in southwestern Arkansas near Ashdown, is a large reservoir formed by the Little River and surrounded by dense forest and wetlands. The lake’s water temperature changes with the seasons, reflecting the region’s warm, humid subtropical climate. In winter, the water generally stays between 7–10 °C (45–50 °F). During spring, it warms steadily to around 15–22 °C (59–72 °F) as air temperatures rise. By midsummer, Millwood Lake reaches its warmest period, with surface temperatures typically ranging from 26–31 °C (79–88 °F). In autumn, the water cools again to about 15–20 °C (59–68 °F) before returning to winter conditions by late November.
Swimming in Millwood Lake is allowed but not particularly common due to the lake’s natural conditions. The water becomes comfortably warm for swimming from late May through early September, yet the shallow, vegetation-rich areas can make swimming less suitable in many places. Most visitors come to Millwood Lake for fishing, boating, and birdwatching rather than for beach recreation. Designated swimming spots are limited, and caution is advised because of soft mud bottoms and wildlife presence. Despite this, the lake’s warm summer water and scenic surroundings offer opportunities for wading or cooling off in calm areas away from dense vegetation.
