*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Erling, located in southwestern Arkansas near the Louisiana border, is a warm, shallow reservoir known for its peaceful setting and diverse wildlife. The water temperature in Lake Erling changes with the seasons but generally stays milder than in northern regions due to Arkansas’s humid subtropical climate. In winter, the lake’s surface temperature typically ranges between 8–12 °C (46–54 °F). During spring, it warms steadily, reaching 15–22 °C (59–72 °F) by late April. In summer, the water becomes comfortably warm for swimming, averaging 25–30 °C (77–86 °F) in most areas. By autumn, temperatures gradually fall back to 15–20 °C (59–68 °F) as cooler weather sets in and daylight hours shorten.
Swimming in Lake Erling is permitted and most enjoyable from late May through early September, when the water reaches its warmest levels. The lake’s calm surface and gently sloping shorelines make it suitable for recreational swimming, though many visitors also come for boating and fishing. Because the reservoir is surrounded by forest and wetlands, swimmers should use designated areas or access points to avoid underwater vegetation and muddy shallows. Outside the summer season, swimming becomes less comfortable due to lower temperatures, but the lake remains a pleasant location for outdoor activities and scenic relaxation.
