*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Hamilton, located in Hot Springs in central Arkansas, is a large and popular reservoir formed on the Ouachita River. Its water temperature varies with the seasons, influenced by both local climate and flow from nearby hydroelectric dams. In winter, the surface temperature generally ranges between 7–11 °C (45–52 °F), too cold for swimming. During spring, as the weather warms, the lake’s temperature rises to about 15–21 °C (59–70 °F). By midsummer, Lake Hamilton reaches its warmest period, with surface waters averaging 25–30 °C (77–86 °F), while deeper sections remain several degrees cooler. In autumn, the water cools again to 15–20 °C (59–68 °F) as air temperatures drop and shorter days return.
Swimming in Lake Hamilton is allowed and very popular, particularly from late May through early September, when the water is warm and conditions are calm. The lake’s many coves, resorts, and public access points provide safe areas for swimming and recreation. The combination of warm summer water, scenic surroundings, and nearby amenities makes it one of the most visited lakes in the region. However, swimmers are advised to stay clear of boat channels and areas near the dam. Outside the summer months, cooler temperatures make swimming less comfortable, but Lake Hamilton remains active with boating and fishing year-round.
