*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Wright Patman, a reservoir in northeast Texas, experiences a wide range of surface water temperatures through the year. In winter months the surface often cools to roughly 40–55°F (4–13°C). Spring brings warming, with typical temperatures from about 55–70°F (13–21°C) as air temperatures rise and runoff mixes. Summer is the warmest period; surface readings commonly reach 75–90°F (24–32°C), and shallow coves can warm even higher on hot, calm days. In autumn temperatures fall back into the 60–75°F (16–24°C) range as air temperatures moderate. These figures are approximate and vary with weather, depth, and time of day.
Swimming is generally allowed at Wright Patman in public recreation areas because the reservoir is managed for multiple recreational uses including swimming, fishing and boating. However, many swim areas are unsupervised—there are typically no lifeguards—and some spots are discouraged due to boat traffic, submerged structures, sudden drop-offs, or occasional water-quality issues such as algal blooms. Visitors should heed posted signs, follow local park rules, and check recent water-quality advisories before entering. Wearing a life jacket and choosing designated swim areas will reduce risks associated with temperature changes and other hazards.
