*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake of Michigamme Reservoir, in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, tends to have cool water year-round compared with lower‑latitude lakes. Typical surface temperatures in summer commonly range from about 60–75°F (15–24°C) in June through August, with the warmest pockets in shallow bays on hot, calm days. Spring and fall see much cooler conditions, often 40–60°F (4–16°C) as the lake mixes and cools, and by winter the surface approaches freezing near 32°F (0°C) where ice forms. Deeper water remains colder than surface readings, so overall thermal stratification and rapid drops in temperature are possible away from the shoreline.
Swimming is generally permitted because the reservoir offers public shoreline and recreational use, but it carries caveats that affect suitability. Variable water levels, submerged structure, and colder-than-expected temperatures can create hazards; areas near dams, boat channels, and inflows are especially risky. Many people swim from beaches or boats during the warmest weeks, but lifeguards are rare and sudden cold water can hasten fatigue or hypothermia, so caution is advised. Local rules, posted signs, and seasonal closures should be checked before entering the water.
