*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
North Twin Lake in Wisconsin experiences a pronounced seasonal cycle in water temperature. In spring (April–May) surface temperatures typically range from about 40–60°F (4–16°C) as ice melts and the lake warms; by summer (June–August) surface readings commonly reach 68–78°F (20–26°C) and can peak near 80°F (27°C) on warm afternoons, while deeper water often remains much cooler, around 40–50°F (4–10°C) below the thermocline. In early fall (September–October) surface temperatures fall back into the 50–65°F (10–18°C) band as cooling and turnover occur. During winter the lake generally freezes and surface temperatures hover at or just below 32°F (0°C) under ice, with any open-water areas correspondingly colder. These ranges vary year to year with weather, depth, and local shading.
Swimming is commonly practiced in the unfrozen months because summer surface temperatures are typically comfortable for recreational use, and public access points often permit beach and launch activities; however, swimming is not advisable when the lake is ice-covered or when posted warnings prohibit entry. Even in summer swimmers should be mindful of cold deep water, sudden drop-offs, boat traffic, and changing conditions. Local regulations, signage, and the presence or absence of lifeguards determine specific allowances, so check current conditions and follow safety guidance before entering the water.
