*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Bond Falls Flowage, a reservoir in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, typically has cool water year-round because of its northern location and inflow from the Ontonagon River. Seasonal surface temperatures commonly run roughly 35–55°F (2–13°C) in spring as snowmelt and cold rains dominate, warming to about 60–75°F (15–24°C) during the summer months when air temperatures are highest. In early fall the surface usually drops back into the 50–60°F (10–16°C) range as cooler weather returns, and by late fall into winter the flowage approaches freezing, around 32°F (0°C) or colder under ice.
Swimming in Bond Falls Flowage is generally possible and people do swim there in summer, but it is not a staffed public beach and conditions can be variable. Because the flowage is a dam-controlled reservoir, there can be changing water levels, underwater structure, and stronger currents near the dam and spillways; cold water temperatures even in summer can increase risk of cold-water shock. Local signage, private property boundaries and safety guidance should be observed, and swimmers should choose sheltered, shallow areas, wear life jackets if farther from shore, and avoid areas immediately downstream of the dam.
