*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Caldron Falls Reservoir, like many inland reservoirs in northern Wisconsin, experiences a wide seasonal swing in water temperature. In spring the water is cold, often ranging from the low 30s to mid 50s °F (around 0–13 °C) as snowmelt and cool inflows dominate. By summer the surface can warm substantially, typically reaching the mid 60s to upper 70s °F (about 18–26 °C) on warm, calm days, with the warmest surface temperatures in July and August. In fall temperatures decline again into the 40s–50s °F (5–15 °C) as air cools and mixing increases, and in winter the reservoir commonly approaches freezing with ice cover in many years, keeping water close to 32–34 °F (0–1 °C) beneath the ice.
Swimming opportunities at Caldron Falls Reservoir depend on local access, signage, and seasonal conditions. Many reservoirs in the region are used recreationally for swimming where shore access or public beaches exist, but restrictions often apply near dams, spillways, or private property for safety and operational reasons. Cold water, sudden drop-offs, submerged hazards, boat traffic and potential algal blooms are factors that can limit safe swimming; during summer months, however, surface temperatures frequently become comfortable enough for casual swimming in permitted areas. Visitors should follow posted rules and local guidance before entering the water.
