** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#Lancashire
Martin Mere is a shallow wetland reserve in Lancashire whose water temperature reflects the maritime climate and shallowness of the pools. Typical seasonal ranges are roughly 2–6 °C (36–43 °F) in winter, 6–12 °C (43–54 °F) in spring, 12–20 °C (54–68 °F) in summer and 8–12 °C (46–54 °F) through autumn. Because the mere is relatively exposed and influenced by local inflows, temperatures can change quickly with weather and are usually cooler than temperatures in sheltered inland lakes during prolonged warm spells.
Swimming at Martin Mere is not allowed: the site is managed for wildfowl and wetland habitats, and public access to the water is restricted to protect birds, sensitive vegetation and to reduce disturbance and safety risks from deep mud and hidden hazards. Visitors can still enjoy the reserve from hides and boardwalks and use the WWT visitor facilities. Nearby attractions include the seafront and pier at Southport, the Ribble estuary and coastal trails, and other local nature sites and heritage villages that make the area popular for birdwatching and low-impact outdoor recreation.
