Anglezarke Reservoir sits high on the moors of Lancashire and tends to be cold for much of the year. Typical seasonal surface temperatures might run roughly 1–6 °C (34–43 °F) in winter, warming to 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) through spring, and peaking around 12–18 °C (54–64 °F) in the warmest summer weeks; autumn usually sees a steady fall back into the 8–12 °C (46–54 °F) band. Those figures can vary with weather, depth and wind, and even in summer the water can feel brisk because of depth and limited sun exposure.
Swimming is generally not officially supported at Anglezarke: it is a working reservoir and access to the water is discouraged for reasons of water quality protection and safety. Cold-water shock, sudden drop-offs, submerged obstacles and lack of lifeguards make wild bathing risky, though some experienced open-water swimmers do enter at their own risk in nearby permissive sites.
