** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Mangen, a freshwater lake in the Akershus area of southeastern Norway, experiences marked seasonal shifts in surface water temperature. In summer months (June–August) surface temperatures commonly range from about 15–22 °C (59–72 °F), and during warm spells can approach the low to mid‑20s °C (mid‑70s °F). Spring (April–May) brings cooler water, roughly 3–12 °C (37–54 °F) as ice melts and the lake stratifies, while autumn (September–October) typically sees surface temperatures fall to around 6–15 °C (43–59 °F). In winter the lake often freezes or hovers close to 0–4 °C (32–39 °F) beneath any ice cover, making open‑water swimming impractical without special cold‑water preparations.
Swimming in Mangen is generally allowed and common during the warmer months because Norway’s right to roam (allemannsretten) provides public access to most shorelines, and the lake’s rural setting often means good water quality. Still, recreational users should exercise caution: there are few lifeguards, sudden cold shock can occur outside peak summer temperatures, and occasional algal blooms or local restrictions near private properties or boating areas may apply. In winter, ice swimming is practiced by some with proper equipment and safety measures, but normal swimming is not recommended when the lake is frozen.
