** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Mälaren in Södermanland is a large, shallow inland sea whose water temperature varies notably with the seasons and with location in the lake. In winter the surface commonly falls close to freezing, roughly 0–4 °C (32–39 °F), and parts of the lake can freeze over in cold years. During spring the water warms to about 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) as snowmelt and sunlight increase. In summer typical surface temperatures reach between 18–22 °C (64–72 °F), and sheltered bays and shallow areas may climb to 24 °C (75 °F) or slightly higher on hot days. Autumn sees a cooling trend back toward 10–15 °C (50–59 °F) and then toward near-freezing as winter returns.
Swimming in Mälaren is generally allowed and widely practiced, especially from public beaches, piers and marinas during the warmer months when temperatures make bathing comfortable. Local water authorities monitor bathing water quality at designated sites, but conditions can vary with algal growth, boat traffic and runoff, so swimmers should follow posted advisories. Early spring and late autumn swimming is possible but requires caution because of cold-water shock; ice swimming occurs in winter among experienced, well-prepared groups using established safety practices.
