*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lough Lene, situated near Collinstown in County Westmeath, is one of Ireland’s cleanest and most scenic freshwater lakes. Known for its remarkable clarity, the lake’s temperature varies with the changing seasons. During winter, it averages around 4–6°C (39–43°F), rising to about 15–18°C (59–64°F) in the summer months. On warm, still days in July or August, the shallow margins may reach 19°C (66°F), though deeper parts stay cooler. The water’s purity and gentle gradient along parts of the shore make it pleasant for summer bathing, while its depth and spring-fed nature help maintain consistently fresh conditions throughout the year.
Swimming is allowed and encouraged at Lough Lene, with a designated Blue Flag swimming area at the Cut near Collinstown. The excellent water quality and calm setting make it one of the most popular inland swimming spots in the Irish Midlands. Lifeguards are often present in the summer, and the lake is also enjoyed by kayakers and paddleboarders. Beyond swimming, visitors can explore nearby attractions such as Fore Abbey and the rolling hills around Loughcrew, both rich in history and scenic views. Together, the clean, clear waters and tranquil surroundings make Lough Lene a standout destination for recreation and relaxation in central Ireland.
