*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lough Corrib, located in western Ireland near Galway, is the country’s second-largest lake and known for its clear, cold waters. The lake’s temperature varies widely with the seasons, typically dropping to around 4–6°C (39–43°F) in winter and rising to about 14–17°C (57–63°F) in midsummer. In exceptionally warm spells, shallow areas may reach 18–19°C (64–66°F), but the deeper parts remain cool even then. These conditions make the water refreshing and sometimes quite chilly, so swimmers often prefer late June to early September for the most comfortable experience. Sudden temperature changes and variable weather can occur, so caution and local advice are recommended before entering the water.
Swimming is allowed in Lough Corrib, but it is best done at supervised or well-known access points, as the lake is large and deep with strong currents in places. Wetsuits are common for longer swims, particularly outside the warmest months. Beyond swimming, the lake is a renowned destination for fishing, boating, and wildlife watching. The nearby city of Galway offers cultural attractions and lively pubs, while scenic sites like Cong village and Ashford Castle lie along its shores, making Lough Corrib a beautiful place to enjoy both outdoor activity and Irish heritage.
