** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Luknas is a typical Latvian inland lake and its water temperature follows the country’s seasonal pattern. In spring (March–May) temperatures climb from near freezing after ice break-up to roughly 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) as the season progresses. In summer (June–August) surface temperatures are most comfortable for bathing, commonly ranging from about 17–24 °C (63–75 °F), with sheltered shallow bays sometimes reaching the mid‑20s °C (mid‑70s to low‑80s °F). During autumn (September–November) the lake cools again to roughly 5–15 °C (41–59 °F). In winter the surface is typically frozen and water beneath the ice stays close to 0–4 °C (32–39 °F), making open‑water swimming impractical and hazardous.
Swimming in Lake Luknas is generally possible and commonly practiced during the warmer months because it is an open freshwater body without a blanket prohibition. Whether you should swim at a particular spot depends on local conditions: designated bathing areas and beaches are usually safer and may have facilities, whereas other shores may be private, ecologically protected, or have safety hazards. Water‑quality advisories, occasional cyanobacterial blooms in very warm summers, and ice cover in winter can make swimming inadvisable, so observing local signage and checking current water‑quality or safety information is recommended.
