** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Svente (Sventes ezers) in southeastern Latvia typically follows the seasonal temperature patterns of shallow inland lakes in the region. In spring (April–May) surface temperatures usually range from about 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) as the water slowly warms after ice melt. In summer (June–August) the lake commonly reaches 17–24 °C (63–75 °F) and can occasionally climb toward 25 °C (77 °F) during hot spells. Autumn (September–October) brings cooling to roughly 8–15 °C (46–59 °F) before winter sets in; from November through March the surface is often close to freezing, around 0–4 °C (32–39 °F), and the lake commonly freezes over.
Swimming in Lake Svente is generally possible and practiced in the warmer months because it is a public freshwater body with accessible shores. However, whether people swim at any given spot depends on local conditions: water quality, algal blooms, the presence of designated bathing areas or signs, and safety measures like lifeguards or shallow entry. In winter, ice swimming is undertaken by some experienced individuals but requires caution, proper equipment and local knowledge of ice thickness. Visitors are advised to follow local signage and authorities’ guidance, check recent water-quality information if available, and take normal precautions when entering open water.
