** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Dūkštas is a freshwater lake in northeastern Lithuania. Water temperatures follow a temperate-lake pattern: in winter the surface often freezes and water under the ice is typically around 0–4 °C (32–39 °F). Spring brings gradual warming, with surface temperatures roughly 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) depending on weather and depth. During summer the shallow surface commonly reaches about 18–24 °C (64–75 °F), and occasional heat waves can push that to the mid-20s °C (mid-70s to high‑70s °F). Autumn cooling returns temperatures to roughly 6–14 °C (43–57 °F) before ice forms again. Depth, wind and sunlight strongly influence these values, with deeper layers remaining colder year‑round.
Swimming in Lake Dūkštas is generally allowed and is popular in the warmest months, because summer surface temperatures are usually comfortable for bathing. Outside the peak summer period swimmers may face cold water that reduces endurance and increases the risk of cold shock, so caution is advised in spring and autumn. Winter swimming or ice dipping is only for experienced individuals using proper safety measures due to hypothermia and variable ice thickness. As with any natural water body, local bathing sites, signage and water quality checks should be observed, and children or inexperienced swimmers should be supervised.
